Botox Medical Uses

While Botox is generally known for being used in non-surgical wrinkle removal procedures, it is also a very useful tool in treating a wide variety of muscular dysfunctions which are caused by erratic or excessive muscular contractions. In order to ensure that our patients receive the best medical treatment, Renew Skin & Health Clinic provides excellent Botox treatment.

Botox, also known as botulinum toxin, is a special protein that can act as a powerful neurotoxin and, because of its unique properties, it can be used in various medical procedures. This protein is produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium and is especially suited to treat different muscle conditions, such as blepharospasm and strabismus, and to obtain effective facial wrinkle removal. The main appeal of Botox in medicine stems from its ability to act as an effective muscle relaxant. Every time a muscle contracts, a chemical messenger called acetylcholine is produced by the nerve attached to the muscle. This chemical neurotransmitter attaches itself to the muscle cell receptors, which causes the muscle to contract. Once the botulinum toxin is micro-injected in a particular area of the body, it reacts as a acetylcholine inhibitor, thus causing the muscles to paralyze, partially or totally, depending on the proportions used to produce the Botox composition.

Besides the aesthetic benefits of Botox micro-injection, at Renew Skin & Health Clinic we also offer several other types of medical treatments. Our experienced medical specialists can use the botulinum toxin to address the causes of excessive sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis), blepharospasm, jaw reduction and chronic migraines. The principle in all of these Botox-based medical treatments is the same: the muscle dysfunction is treated by relaxing the affected muscle. In the case of jaw reduction, this is used in order to cause the muscle to reduce in size over time, thus preventing bruxism, which is the involuntary clenching of the teeth, and producing an overall more feminine jaw line. In the case of Botox blepharospasm treatment, the muscle which controls movement of the eyelids is relaxed in order to prevent the uncontrollable blinking. Similarly, the Botox chronic migraine treatment also involves reducing muscle strain, this time occurring in the frontal section of the head. This particular muscle group is often associated with headaches and migraines and by partially paralyzing it, the patient is relieved of any discomfort. Botox can also be used to inhibit the apocrine perspiratory glands from overproducing sweat, making it a very effective axillary hyperhidrosis treatment.

On the other hand, it is important to keep in mind that there are also certain medical risks which are associated with undergoing a Botox treatment. If the procedure is not performed properly, the patient can experience eyelid droop, cockeyed eyebrows, excessive tearing, asymmetric smile or dry eyes due to glandular dysfunction. These issues generally appear if the Botox is not placed correctly underneath the skin by the medical specialist and is accidentally spread to the adjacent areas. Because of the potential problems posed by this procedure, the Renew Skin & Health Clinic team strongly recommends that you be very careful when you select the clinic and the medical specialist performing the Botox treatment.

If you wish to revitalize your appearance or correct certain signs of muscle dysfunction, then Renew Skin & Health Clinic provides excellent Botox treatment. If you think you can benefit from any of these procedures, just contact Renew Skin & Health Clinic Head Office and schedule an appointment.
